The Architectural Technologist supports the preparation of technical drawing packages, assists with building code research, and helps integrate consultant information into coordinated construction documents. This role transforms design intent into clear, accurate technical documentation by using Building Information Modelling software (Revit).

As the most junior architectural technology role within Ace, this position is intended for individuals who possess foundational technical skills, a willingness to learn, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset. The Architectural Technologist contributes meaningfully to drafting, coordination and technical development activities throughout the project lifecycle.

Technical Drawing Production

·       Prepare portions of Development Permit, Building Permit, and Issued for Construction drawing packages using Building Information Modelling software (REVIT) for three-dimensional and two-dimensional technical drawings/coordination.

·       Develop accurate drafting, annotation and sheet organization that follow Ace Architecture’s technical and graphic standards.

·       Assist in creating and developing architectural details including wall sections, roof assemblies, floor assemblies and other building components.

·       Support the application of the Alberta Building Code, including introductory research related to Part Three and Part Nine requirements.

·       Incorporate technical information provided by structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing consultants into coordinated documentation.

·       Assist with assembling technical documents for Development Permit and Building Permit submissions across multiple jurisdictions.

Construction Administration Support

·       Assist senior team members in responding to Requests for Information, reviewing shop drawings and preparing technical field review notes.

·       Attend construction site visits alongside senior staff, documenting observations with accuracy, clarity and professionalism.

·       Support the resolution of construction issues by gathering technical information, preparing supplemental sketches and coordinating updates to drawing packages.

·       Maintain well-organized project documentation, including Construction Administration correspondence, reports and meeting notes.

Design and Schematic Support

·       Translate early conceptual design ideas into preliminary two-dimensional layouts and three-dimensional models.

·       Prepare digital and graphical materials including massing studies, rendering support, presentation graphics and material research.

·       Apply Ace Architecture’s design standards to ensure consistency in graphic quality across all digital and presentation platforms.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Credentials

·       Diploma in Architectural Technology (or equivalent)

Experience

·       One to five years of experience in architectural drafting or architectural practice.

·       Exposure to commercial, multi-family residential, mixed-use or institutional projects is preferred.

·       Foundational understanding of wood frame, steel frame, concrete structure and hybrid construction systems.

Technical Skills

·       Foundational proficiency in Building Information Modelling using REVIT.

·       Ability to use Computer-Aided Design drafting software for two-dimensional drawing production.

·       Proficiency in Bluebeam, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.

·       Introductory to developing knowledge of the Alberta Building Code and municipal bylaws.

·       Ability to communicate technical information clearly in drawings, reports and written documentation.

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements:

·       Occasional travel for construction site visits, client meetings and field reviews.

·       Work on active construction sites as required.

·       Occasional overtime may be required during peak project phases.
