The role

McMillan Vantage is hiring a Junior Associate beginning May 13, 2024 or on a mutually agreed upon date. This individual must have completed their Masters or undergraduate degree.

The successful individual is looking to build a career in government relations, communications, and public affairs consulting on behalf of Canadian businesses, industry associations and not for profits. This individual should bring a perspective that is unique from previous work (paid or volunteer) or educational experiences in order to advance our client’s files.

Team Vantage operates in a hybrid model. This individual would be encouraged to spend the equivalent of two days a week in our Toronto or Ottawa office.

The responsibilities

McMillan Vantage consultants are talented, highly-organized team players with the ability to work effectively on several projects at one time. Some of the responsibilities for a Junior Associate include:

Researching and synthesizing complex information across platforms

Developing excellent first drafts of materials such as PowerPoints, key messages, briefing or issues notes and policy papers under the direction of more senior consultants

Summarizing and analyzing political and policy environments through reviews of Hansard, jurisdictional policy scans, and statements made by policymakers online and in the media

Monitoring of applicable press conferences, government announcements, funding programs, committees and question period debates

Providing account support such as organizing meetings, producing call summaries and creating project schedules / to do lists

Learning about new sectors and issues in support of McMillan Vantage new business development

The qualifications and competencies

Completed a Masters or undergraduate degree with a focus in political science, public administration, history, economics, law or a related field

Proven experience working independently with strong time and project management skills

Excellent verbal, writing and editing skills in English (French is an asset)

Interest in learning on their feet and continuously improve
