SolidEarth Geotechnical Inc. has been providing exceptional geotechnical, environmental, and materials engineering consulting and testing services since 2012 and has grown to over 50 staff and three offices located in Edmonton, Lloydminster, and Cold Lake. We are a trusted supplier of services to local, provincial, and federal governments, major oil and gas companies, civil consultants, and large contractors.
Your Role in Our Success:
- Perform field and laboratory testing on soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt mixes, with a focus on asphalt quality control and assurance
- Conduct asphalt testing in accordance with Alberta Transportation (ATT) test methods and specifications, or equivalent standards
- Monitor and document asphalt production and placement to ensure compliance with project specifications
- Communicate (verbally and in writing) results, deficiencies, and observations to clients, contractors, and project engineers
- Complete accurate field reports, test summaries, and daily documentation
- Work safely in accordance with company and project health and safety programs
- Work on local and remote construction sites, including asphalt plants and paving operations
- Maintain a flexible schedule, including overtime and/or weekends, as required during construction season
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or related field) preferred
- Intermediate-level experience (2–5+ years) in materials testing, with a strong focus on asphalt
- Experience with Alberta Transportation test procedures (ATT) and standards is strongly preferred
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (Three-Year Driver’s Abstract required)
- Ability to pass criminal background check, drug and alcohol testing, and fitness screening as required for site access
- Working proficiency in spoken and written English
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with asphalt mix design verification, plant monitoring, and field density/compaction testing
- Familiarity with CCIL certification or working toward certification is considered an asset
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing to a team environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and communicate issues in real time
- Ability to stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable driving a pick-up truck and working long days in the field
- Ability to work on your feet for extended periods in various weather conditions
- Experience working in office, laboratory, and field environments
