Shreem Systems & Solutions Inc. is seeking an experienced Industrial Instrumentation Technician to join our growing team. The successful candidate will support industrial construction, maintenance, shutdowns, turnarounds, commissioning, start-up, and automation projects across Western Canada.
This position is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and repair of industrial instrumentation and control systems in oil & gas, chemical, aerospace, mining, power generation, utilities, manufacturing, food processing, water, and wastewater facilities.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, electricians, automation specialists, project managers, clients, and other trades to deliver safe, reliable, and high-quality industrial solutions.
Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, commission, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial instrumentation and control equipment.
- Install, test, and commission field instruments including pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical, gas detection, vibration, and control valves.
- Install and maintain instrument tubing systems, impulse tubing, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, manifolds, supports, and associated hardware.
- Perform instrument calibration using HART communicators, documenting calibrators, multifunction process calibrators, pressure calibrators, and other specialized test equipment.
- Perform loop checks, point-to-point verification, I/O checks, functional testing, and commissioning activities.
- Assist with plant start-ups, shutdowns, turnarounds, commissioning, and system performance testing.
- Troubleshoot PLC, DCS, SCADA, MCC, VFD, and process control systems in collaboration with automation specialists.
- Test control panels, marshalling panels, junction boxes, field wiring, communication networks, and associated instrumentation.
- Read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, instrument location plans, cable schedules, hook-up drawings, electrical schematics, panel layouts, and engineering specifications.
- Perform preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance on instrumentation systems.
- Support control valve inspections, positioner calibration, actuator testing, and valve diagnostics.
- Verify instrument installation complies with project specifications, CSA standards, client requirements, and manufacturer recommendations.
- Prepare commissioning documentation, calibration records, red-line drawings, deficiency reports, and daily field reports.
- Coordinate activities with electricians, millwrights, pipefitters, engineers, vendors, contractors, and client representatives.
- Ensure all work is completed safely in accordance with company procedures, client standards, and applicable provincial and federal regulations.
- Participate in site safety meetings, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and permit-to-work systems.
- Travel to client sites throughout Western Canada as required.
- Participate in after-hours, emergency call-out, shutdown, turnaround, and scheduled maintenance activities when required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of industrial instrumentation experience in construction, maintenance, commissioning, or plant operations.
- Red Seal Instrumentation and Control Technician (Industrial Instrument Mechanic) preferred.
- Instrumentation Technologist or technician CET
- Experience working in industrial facilities including:
- Oil & Gas
- Chemical & Petrochemical

- Manufacturing

- Pulp & Paper
- Strong understanding of industrial process control systems.
- Experience installing and calibrating transmitters, switches, analyzers, control valves, gas detection systems, and field instrumentation.
- Experience with instrument tubing fabrication, bending, installation, leak testing, and support systems.
- Knowledge of HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, or other industrial communication protocols is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems is an asset.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and commissioning documentation.
- Experience using HART communicators, multifunction process calibrators, pressure calibrators, documenting calibrators, insulation resistance testers, digital multimeters, loop calibrators, and related instrumentation test equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining effective communication with project teams.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Ability to travel throughout Western Canada.
- Ability to work overtime, shutdowns, shift work, and out-of-town assignments as required.
- Ability to work in industrial environments including confined spaces, elevated work areas, and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
