About the role

We’re looking for both Legal Counsel II and Senior Legal Counsel to

join our growing team

!

What you’ll do here:

Handle insurance litigation files of varying complexities from beginning to conclusion.

Draft opinions, pleadings, affidavits and other legal documents to support applications, mediations, judicial settlement conferences and trials.

Independently prepare and conduct applications, discoveries, mediations, arbitration, pre-trial conferences and trials.

Prepare and present legal educational seminars to the claims department and help your Intact colleagues from other departments on inquiries.

Maintain productive and effective communications with claims department and adjusters.

What you bring to the table:

Member in good standing of the Law Society.

Minimum of 6 years + of insurance litigation experience.

Experience in legal research and writing, including authorship of legal opinions.

Experience in drafting pleadings, conducting discoveries, mediations, application documents and pre-hearing memoranda.

Proficiency in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.

Trial experience, particularly independent trial experience, is a definite asset.

Excellent verbal and written

communication skills

, combined with research and negotiation experience.

Have superior organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple case files simultaneously.

Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective client relationships.
