Position Summary:
Reporting to the Hospitality Supervisor, the Hospitality Worker – Dining Services is primarily responsible for duties related to (but not limited to) the serving of all menu items to our residents, maintenance of unit specific product inventory levels, washing dishes, setting, clearing, cleaning, and sanitizing of resident dining and service areas, sanitation of food delivery tools and equipment with a clear focus on resident satisfaction. A clear understanding and practice of safe food handling and sanitation practices is required.

This position will:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Dining Experience

  • Regularly shows a friendly presence in the dining room to welcome comments and suggestions about the food and dining experience to ensure maximum resident satisfaction and efficiency
  • Performance of resident meal service delivery with the support of the food service team
  • Attentive care and consideration of resident, staff and visitors requests
  • Prepares tables in dining areas before mealtimes with items such as napkins, placemats, utensils, condiments, and beverages
  • Clearing and cleaning of resident dining tables and chairs and service areas
  • Operates dishwashing machine, stacks clean dishes and utensils, sets, clears and cleans dining tables
  • Operates dispensing machines and other related equipment
  • Performs cleaning tasks such as sweeping and damp mopping floors; sanitizing counter tops, sinks, machines and equipment; spot washing walls and splash areas; removing and disposing of trash
  • Replenishes beverage containers in refrigerator; tidies kitchenette and replenishes supplies; re-stocks refrigerator; drains and resets coffee urns
  • Ensures that high standards of sanitation, cleanliness and safety are maintained throughout the kitchen and food and beverage service areas at all times
  • Assists in implementing special and marketing events (chef’s table, special dinners, theme events, happy hour)

Administrative

  • Performs related clerical duties such as collating orders for the next day, coordinating with concierge regarding tray service / meal pick-up, residents in the hospital/away, and guest reservations and documenting information on menu cards
  • Inventory and replenishment of unit specific supplies
  • Completes all temperature logs
  • Ensures all Covenant Living policies are adhered to
  • Ensures effective team communication within the residence, logs any concerns regarding resident behavior in an incident report
  • Maintains effective and oral and written communication and good human relations with residents, families and staff of other departments, using appropriate lines of communication
  • Ensures that high standards of customer service, sanitation, cleanliness and safety are maintained throughout the dining room, Country Kitchen and Bistro service areas at all times
  • Respond to ongoing priorities within the site
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives
  • Other duties As assigned or required by the Executive Chef/Manager, Hospitality Supervisor or Site Manager, will perform other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent
  • Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Food Safety Certificate would be an advantage
  • WHMIS Certificate (or willing to obtain)
  • 1-3-years’ experience in a similar role preferred
  • Experience in a Retirement Living setting preferred
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.
  • Understanding and proven ability of basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families and co-workers.
  • Must have the manual dexterity required for handling equipment and supplies
  • In addition, incumbent must be flexible and adapt easily to changes in schedule, work assignments and environment. Must be willing and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of the dietary needs of older persons
  • Ability to model teamwork and excellence in customer service
  • Work in an environment where there are many distractions and attention is needed on numerous issues at a time
  • Able to handle stressful situations with empathy, demonstrate respect for others using tact, courtesy and diplomacy
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and show initiative
  • Constantly seeks to improve, streamline and ensure continuous quality improvement for residents and tenants
  • Ability to maintain good working relations with staff, public and outside agencies
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, time management and communication skills
  • Proficient in handling multiple priorities and adapting quickly to an ever-changing environment
  • Flexibility with changes in the organization and maintain a positive outlook
  • This position requires the ability to multi-task
  • Additional work hours may be required
  • Reacts to schedule changes in a timely manner

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds
  • Bending, stooping on a regular basis
  • Walk, stretch and stand on a variety of surfaces for at least 6 hours per day
  • Push and/or pull wheeled equipment up to 50 pounds
