Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role based at Lai Wah Heen in Toronto, ON, for a Head Host & Events Assistant. The individual in this role will oversee front-of-house operations and create a welcoming, elevated atmosphere for guests.

Key responsibilities include managing reservations, coordinating seating arrangements, and ensuring top-tier customer service at all times. The role also involves assisting with event planning and execution, supporting private dining experiences, and acting as a primary point of contact for clients to ensure their expectations are met from inquiry through to completion.

Additional responsibilities include creating and managing Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), handling deposits and payment schedules, and maintaining detailed event files from start to finish. The role will also support the design and printing of custom menus for guests, as well as translating menus and materials for kitchen and service teams to ensure clear communication.

This position will also involve identifying opportunities to upsell private dining spaces and curated experiences, maintaining ongoing guest communication, and ensuring all details are executed with precision.

The Head Host & Events Assistant will be responsible for training and supporting host team members, developing checklists and systems for host duties, and ensuring consistency and accuracy across all front-of-house operations.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and customer service abilities, with a focus on creating exceptional guest experiences
  • Experience training and mentoring team members to uphold high service standards
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service, with a passion for hospitality
  • Sales skills, including the ability to upsell private dining experiences and services
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in managing event logistics, communications, and documentation
  • Experience creating BEOs, managing event files, and coordinating bookings from start to finish is an asset
  • Familiarity with menu design, printing, or graphic design is considered an asset
  • Proficiency in reservation systems and POS software is a plus
  • Prior experience in a hospitality or fine dining establishment is highly desirable
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
