The Genetic Assistant supports patient care in the department by assisting physicians, genetic counsellors and other staff with aspects of triage, clinic flow, case preparation, and case follow up. The Genetic Assistant will obtain patient records, access medical and research literature, track results, coordinate genetic testing for patient and family members, and prepare patient information.

Bachelor Degree in related field (i.e. Science, Biology, Genetics) preferred

Knowledge of basic genetics essential

Strong communication skills

Ability to work in multidisciplinary setting

Unit Summary

Genetic services are provided jointly by the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster Children’s Hospital, and the Department of Laboratory Medicine at McMaster University Medical Centre, at Hamilton Health Sciences. The Regional Genetics Service is a dynamic program providing specialized care for children and adults in a family-centred environment
