Job Purpose
The General Helper assists in all areas throughout the shop and primarily assist trades workers and foremen to complete their tasks.
Responsibilities:
Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
Assist fitters and welders with tasks.
Assists Foreperson with daily jobs i.e. finding items.
Applyies general knowledge of tools and equipment.
Uses proper tools to meet the specific job requirements.
Uses oxygen and acetylene to cut steel.
Uses a 5” or 7” grinder to grind plates or other material i.e. beams, channels and angles.
Reads a tape measure (imperial & metric) and blue prints.
Unloads detail trays and organizes the detail.
Hustles detail.
Assists with housekeeping in the shop (sweeping) and outside, as required.
Attends daily toolbox meetings.
Completes tasks with minimal NCR’s.
Consistently follows and encourages shop rules.
Willing to work overtime when needed.
Qualifications:
Respirator Training preferred;
Basic Rigging Course is an asset;
FLHA Training;
WHMIS.
Working Conditions
The incumbent is required to work in the fabrication shop with moderate noise.
Physical Requirements
The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing specifications for extended periods of time and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry, limited lifting and sitting.
