This position plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness and crisis. About La Puente
La Puente is a nonprofit organization serving Colorado’s San Luis Valley through food assistance, emergency shelter, homelessness prevention, youth programs, and advocacy services. Since 1982, our mission has been to meet immediate needs and empower people to live independently with dignity.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare meals for 20–70 individuals while following food safety standards.
- Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming kitchen, dining, and shelter spaces.
- Complete incident reports, case notes, and medication logs.
- Support daily shelter operations and client services.
- Build respectful and professional relationships with shelter guests.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers to ensure quality services.
- Assist with additional shelter duties as needed to support clients and staff.
Qualifications
- Reliable, adaptable, and willing to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable performing physical tasks, including standing, lifting, cooking, and cleaning.
- Flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight coverage.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, trauma, or crisis is preferred but not required.
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills are a plus.

Schedule
- Full-Time (40 hours per week)
- Includes weekend and holiday shifts
- Occasional overnight coverage may be required during staffing shortages or emergencies
- Opportunities to assist across multiple shelter functions and programs as needed.
Compensation
Starting Wage: $15.16 per hour
