Bring your expertise in forest licensing and allocation to the Forest Licensing Unit within the Ministry of Natural Resources, where you will help to shape the landscape of forest licensing and regulation in Ontario.

About the job

In this role, you will:

  • provide strategic advice and leadership related to forestry licensing and wood allocation, including forestry legislation and its applicable regulations, policies and procedures
  • provide support to the ministry’s Forestry division and field organization regarding operational policy, implementation and issues management as they relate to forestry licensing and wood allocation
  • provide coordination, implementation and integration of a modernized forest tenure and pricing system at a provincial level

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

You must have a valid class ‘G’ driver’s licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver’s licence upon being hired.

Technical expertise:

  • extensive knowledge of legislation, regulations and Ministry forestry program, policies, standards, guidelines and procedures, as it relates to forest licensing and allocation
  • strong knowledge of resource management principles and practices in Ontario
  • knowledge of legislation and policy development, and government decision-making processes

Communication skills:

  • demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills in order to effectively gain support for section’s programs, attend meetings/conferences, and to work in a team environment
  • proven communication skills, tact, diplomacy and good judgement in order to present information effectively and to brief and liaise with senior Ministry staff and forest industry officials
  • written communication skills to prepare reports, correspondence and in the development of guideline and policy documents

Project management and organizational skills:

  • well developed administrative, project management and organizational skills to manage and prioritize competing demands and maintain tight deadlines under pressure
  • proven record of results orientation individually and within a team

Analytical skills:

  • ability to use strong analytical and evaluative skills to interpret policy and legislation and to strategically develop standards and guidelines
  • ability to analyze, interpret and apply financial related information
