Position Overview
Temple Beth Shalom is seeking an organized, operations-minded Food Services Coordinator to maintain our vibrant community’s kitchens and coordinate food logistics. Rather than a traditional commercial cooking role, this position focuses heavily on operations, inventory management, and cross-departmental coordination.
The Food Services Coordinator ensures our main kitchen and pantry spaces are welcoming, clean, and fully stocked. Working collaboratively with the Facilities Team, learning programs, lay leaders, and other staff, this role provides the vital logistical support and reassurance needed to execute successful school and community programming.
Key Outcomes & Responsibilities
- Clean, Organized, and Welcoming Kitchen Spaces
- Maintain strict cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards across the main kitchen and pantry spaces
- Conduct weekly deep cleanings of appliances and pantry spaces, ensuring all stock is rotated and current
- Partner with the Facilities Team to coordinate equipment maintenance, repairs, and relevant inspections
- Develop and maintain a kitchen protocols manual
- Reliable Support for School and Community Programming
- Coordinate daily food preparation logistics (reheating and presentation, no scratch cooking required)
- Provide operational support for large-scale events
- Inventory, Deliveries, and Logistics
- Maintain an inventory of all food, paper products, and kitchen supplies, providing reassurance to staff and lay leaders that necessary items are always accessible
- Receive, log, and stock all incoming deliveries into the main kitchen and pantry spaces
- Facilitate external catering deliveries, managing labeling, placement, and spatial planning for larger events
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration and Hospitality
- Liaise directly with staff to understand food and setup needs for upcoming events
- Partner effectively with staff to help execute programs where food is being served
- Ensure the main kitchen is prepped for private event rentals/external caterers and properly reset afterward to ensure positive experiences
Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of work experience in an operations, logistics, or support role. (Commercial restaurant kitchen experience is not required; an operational mindset is highly valued.)
Certifications:
- Must possess or be willing to obtain CPR/First Aid and ServSafe certification; and any other certifications as required
Skills:
- Strong organizational skills, with a knack for inventory tracking and rotating stock
- Excellent multitasking abilities in a busy, community-centric environment
- A warm, professional manner with a calm, reassuring presence when working with staff, volunteers, and lay leaders
- Ability to read and execute basic instructions (e.g., handling pre-made dough, scaling up reheating instructions)
- Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and basic office software for inventory management, communication, and scheduling.
Cultural Competency:
- Open to learning about and respecting Jewish cultural and religious customs, particularly regarding food and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 40 pounds on a regular basis (e.g., food deliveries, large boxes of paper products)
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods while working in kitchen, loading, and storage areas
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and climb small ladders or step stools as needed to stock shelves
- Ability to safely operate standard kitchen equipment (e.g., ovens, mixers, etc.) and follow all safety procedures
