ITN Food Corporation is seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor (FSQA Supervisor) to oversee food safety, quality assurance, sanitation, lab/testing activities, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance at our Woodbridge – Vaughan facility.

 

Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, this role is responsible for ensuring that food safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory programs are properly implemented, maintained, documented, and followed across production, warehouse, and distribution operations.

 

The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a lean operational environment and taking direct ownership of day-to-day FSQA execution, including independently dealing CFIA and other regulatory requirements, Health Canada, Agriculture Canada, US FDA, USDA, food labelling compliance, inspections, CFIA portal/system use, CARM/CBSA import portal coordination where applicable, internal audits, sanitation verification, customer complaints, corrective actions, product hold/release decisions, and compliance documentation.

 

The role also requires strong people skills, including the ability to guide, educate, and influence production, warehouse, sanitation, and operations teams on GMP, food safety, hygiene, documentation, sanitation, allergen controls, corrective actions, and compliance expectations.

Job Overview 

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor (FSQA Supervisor) will oversee the company’s food safety, quality assurance, sanitation, testing, audit-readiness, and regulatory compliance programs. This role requires practical hands-on involvement, strong documentation discipline, and the ability to work closely with operations, production, warehouse, procurement, sanitation, auditors, customers, and regulatory bodies.

 

The role requires prior experience handling regulatory inspections, CFIA-related matters, compliance follow-up, food safety documentation, audit preparation, lab/testing coordination, and product quality decisions in a food manufacturing, food processing, warehouse, or distribution environment.

 

Key Responsibilities 

· Oversee and coordinate food safety, quality assurance, sanitation, lab/testing, audit-readiness, and regulatory compliance activities.

 

· Act as the focal person for regulatory compliance matters, including CFIA, Health Canada, Agriculture Canada, US FDA, USDA, food labelling, inspection readiness, regulatory documentation, portal management, follow-up actions, and issue resolution.

 

· Support and maintain food safety management systems, including HACCP, GMP, and certification programs such as BRC, SQF, or equivalent systems where applicable.

 

· Prepare for and coordinate regulatory inspections, third-party audits, customer audits, internal quality audits, and certification-related activities.

 

· Set up, maintain, and support the operation of food quality testing and verification processes, including microbiological sampling, environmental monitoring, product inspections, swabbing, sanitation verification, and lab-related documentation.

 

· Develop, maintain, and review QA/QC procedures, SOPs, forms, logs, specifications, product standards, food safety policies, and related documentation.

 

· Coordinate GMP compliance, sanitation practices, hygiene standards, allergen controls, foreign material controls, pest control follow-up, and facility inspection activities.

 

· Monitor production quality records, MRNs, inspection logs, equipment reports, sanitation records, corrective action reports, traceability documents, and other operational records.

 

· Conduct routine facility inspections, environmental monitoring, sanitation verification, equipment checks, product expiry checks, and workplace quality/safety observations.

 

· Approve, reject, place on hold, release, or escalate materials and products based on food safety, quality, regulatory, and documentation requirements.

 

· Investigate food safety incidents, product quality issues, damages, non-conformances, expired products, customer complaints, supplier complaints, and regulatory concerns, ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions.

 

· Support product holds, releases, withdrawals, mock recalls, traceability exercises, scrap/disposal activities, and related compliance requirements.

 

· Supervise sanitation activities across warehouse, production, and related operational areas, including sanitation verification, supplies, equipment, and follow-up on deficiencies.

 

· Guide and educate production, warehouse, sanitation, and operations teams on GMP, food safety procedures, hygiene practices, documentation requirements, allergen controls, sanitation expectations, and corrective action follow-up.

 

· Communicate non-compliance findings clearly and professionally, ensuring team members understand required corrective actions, timelines, and compliance expectations.

 

· Coordinate with production, warehouse, procurement, maintenance, supply chain, sanitation, and operations teams to maintain food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

 

· Support food safety and quality training, GMP awareness, sanitation training, QHSE communication, and compliance awareness initiatives.

 

· Conduct or support risk assessments, workplace safety observations, PPE compliance checks, incident follow-up, emergency preparedness activities, and environmental compliance controls.

 

· Maintain and report FSQA/QHSE performance metrics, records, corrective action plans, and compliance updates to management.

 

· Identify process gaps and recommend practical improvements to strengthen compliance, audit readiness, product quality, operational discipline, and documentation accuracy.

 

· Perform other related responsibilities supporting the food safety, quality assurance, regulatory, and operational objectives of the company.

 

Qualifications & Requirements 

· Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or a related field preferred.

 

· 4–5 years of hands-on experience in food manufacturing, food processing, food safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, warehouse quality, or production/distribution quality environments.

 

· Prior experience dealing with CFIA and other food regulatory requirements is required, including inspection support, regulatory follow-up, compliance documentation, food labelling, and familiarity with regulatory portals or related systems.

 

· Working knowledge of HACCP, GMP, sanitation programs, food safety risk management, traceability, corrective actions, and quality management systems such as BRC, SQF, or equivalent programs.

 

· Familiarity with Canadian and applicable international food regulatory requirements, including CFIA, Health Canada, Agriculture Canada, US FDA, USDA, food labelling, import, inspection, and compliance standards.

 

· Experience with internal audits, third-party audits, environmental monitoring, microbiological testing, sanitation verification, product inspections, quality documentation, and corrective action follow-up.

 

· Ability to work hands-on in a lean operational environment and directly support food safety, quality assurance, sanitation, testing, regulatory, and compliance execution.

 

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for maintaining records, reports, logs, compliance documentation, audit files, and quality records.

 

· Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, follow-up, and documentation skills.

 

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coach, guide, and influence cross-functional teams while maintaining professional working relationships.

 

· Ability to explain food safety, GMP, sanitation, hygiene, documentation, and compliance requirements in a practical manner to production, warehouse, sanitation, and operations employees.

 

· Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and attention to detail.

· Able to work independently while keeping the Director of Operations informed on key risks, issues, corrective actions, and compliance matters.

 

· Detail-oriented, accountable, and focused on maintaining consistent food safety, quality, and operational standards.

 

Compensation & Benefits: Competitive salary: $60,000 – $70,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
