The Town of Tillsonburg is looking for a Fire Prevention Officer/Firefighter who would be responsible for leading Tillsonburg Fire Rescue Services, Fire Prevention and Public Education programs and responds to and mitigates emergencies in the community.
This is a permanent full-time position with an excellent benefits package including immediate group benefits coverage, OMERS defined pension plan and free Employee Health Club Membership at the Tillsonburg Community Centre.

Hourly rate:$43.49 – $50.88/hour
Weekly hours: 40.

Post-Secondary education in Fire Prevention, Fire Protection Technology, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Firefighting, Education, or related field as determined by the Fire Chief
Minimum 5 years related work experience
Extensive knowledge of Ontario Fire Code, Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Ontario Building Code, Provincial Offenses Act, Fire & life safety systems, fire prevention, firefighting, and public education
Proficient with computer technology, Windows O/S, Microsoft Suite, RMS
Project management skills and experience
Ability to make decisions, solve problems, resolve conflict
Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
Superior interpersonal and customer service skills
Ability to work cohesively and effectively maintaining a positive team environment
Ability to handle matters of a confidential or politically sensitive nature
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
Ability to learn and follow procedures
Successfully complete York University’s Firefighter Physical Testing
Provide Police Vulnerable Sector Check
Excellent time management skills
Responsibilities
Conducts fire and life safety inspections and ensures legislative compliance
Investigates complaints
Issues orders and prosecutes offenders
Reviews and approves business licence applications
Develops fire prevention and public education programs based on community risks
Reviews and approves fire safety plans
Reviews and examines planning documents and provides comments
Evaluates compliance alternatives
Provides technical support and advise on fire prevention and Ontario Fire Code
Reviews and updates Community Risk Assessment
Investigates fire origin and cause
Responds to and mitigates emergencies (fires, medicals, alarms, vehicle accidents, rescues, HAZMAT etc.)
Inspects, maintains, operates station, apparatus and equipment
Conducts and updates building audits and pre-incident plans
Liaises with internal and external agencies and stakeholders
Develops and administers fire prevention and public education budgets
Project management
Provide exceptional customer service, problem solving, conflict resolution
Invoicing, note taking, report writing, issue orders, maintains records & files
Maintains professional competencies
Other duties as assigned
