Reporting to the CFO, this key position will provide leadership and direction to the finance department, overseeing a group of companies’ financial operations, including accounting, financial planning & analysis, and treasury management. Your attributes will include strong organizational skills, self-motivation and the ability to meet deadlines coupled with a keen desire to succeed. The Controller will lead the accounting team, maintain strong internal controls, and partner with cross-functional departments to support the company’s growth and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Lead the annual budgeting process.
- Provide financial insights to leadership to support operational and strategic decisions.
- Analyze monthly financial results and provide variance analysis against budget.
- Partner with department leaders to monitor performance and identify opportunities for cost optimization and revenue growth.
- Prepare management/executive reports, dashboards, and KPIs to support executive decision-making.
- Support pricing, margin analysis, and profitability analysis across business units, products, or services.
2. Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee the full-cycle accounting function including general ledger, accounts payable
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with ASPE.
- Maintain and enforce strong internal controls and financial policies.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations including corporate tax, HST/GST, and other statutory filings.
- Continuously improve accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
3. Treasury & Cash Management
- Manage the company’s cash flow forecasting
- Monitor daily cash positions and optimize working capital.
- Manage payment processes and cash disbursements.
- Ensure compliance with loan covenants and financing agreements.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.
- Establish clear performance expectations and support professional development.
- Collaborate with sales, operations, and other departments to align financial planning with business objectives.
- Drive optimization initiatives, process improvements and implement best practices across finance operations.
Qualifications
- CPA designation required (CPA Canada).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and budgeting processes.
- Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, etc.).
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in telecommunications, technology, or recurring revenue business models is an asset
- Experience managing multi-entity or multi-province operations.
- Experience supporting system migrations or finance transformation initiatives.
