Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Grading/Excavation Foreman to oversee and manage all aspects of grading and excavation operations on construction sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of workers, coordinating equipment and materials, and ensuring that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and lead a team of grading and excavation workers, including equipment operators, laborers, and truck drivers.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to plan and execute grading and excavation activities according to project timelines and specifications.
Oversee the setup and operation of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, graders, and dump trucks, ensuring proper utilization and maintenance.
Conduct site assessments and surveys to determine the scope of work, identify potential hazards, and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
Interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate grading and excavation according to design requirements.
Monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations, including OSHA standards, and implement safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
Coordinate the delivery and placement of materials, such as soil, gravel, and rock, to achieve desired grading and compaction levels.
Perform quality control inspections to ensure that grading and excavation work meets project specifications and industry standards.
Communicate effectively with team members, subcontractors, and supervisors to provide updates on project progress, issues, and changes in scope.
Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including equipment usage, materials consumption, and labor hours, for reporting and tracking purposes.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in construction management or related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in grading and excavation operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and mentor team members to achieve project goals.
Strong technical knowledge of grading and excavation equipment, techniques, and processes.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Thorough understanding of safety regulations and best practices in construction, with a commitment to promoting a culture of safety on the job site.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; CDL preferred.
Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
