Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator specializing in Steel Fabrication to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate project estimates, analyzing project specifications, and collaborating with clients and internal teams to ensure successful project execution. This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse steel fabrication projects within a dynamic construction environment, utilizing advanced estimating tools and techniques. The Estimator will play a critical role in securing new business and maintaining competitive pricing strategies. ERP systems knowledge is an asset.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Costing
- Review project drawings, specifications, and client requirements
- Prepare detailed cost estimates (materials, labour, equipment, subcontracting)
- Calculate quantities of steel components (beams, plates, railings, etc.)
- Develop pricing strategies that balance competitiveness and profitability
Technical Review
- Interpret structural and fabrication drawings
- Assess fabrication processes such as cutting, welding, bending, and assembly
- Understand shop capabilities (CNC cutting, welding, forming, etc.) relevant to Norweld’s services
Project Coordination
- Work closely with shop supervisors, welders, and management
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing
- Support project handoff to production after bid approval
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of estimates, quotes, and historical cost data
- Prepare bid packages and proposal documents
- Track estimate vs. actual costs for continuous improvement
Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
