About the Job – Emergency Response Team (ERT) Lead / Trainer

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) Lead / Trainer is responsible for leading the site’s Emergency Response Program and ensuring the mine maintains a high level of emergency preparedness. This role oversees the development, training, and operational readiness of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), ensuring compliance with company standards, British Columbia mining regulations, and industry best practices.The successful candidate will provide leadership during emergency incidents, coordinate emergency planning activities, deliver emergency response training, and foster a proactive safety culture across the operation.

Key Responsibilities

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) Lead / Trainer will be responsible for the following functions:

  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop the site’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), ensuring a high level of operational readiness.
  • Serve as the primary emergency response lead during incidents and assume Incident Command roles as required.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Mine Emergency Response Plan (MERP) and supporting emergency response procedures.
  • Coordinate and lead emergency drills, tabletop exercises, and full-scale emergency response simulations.
  • Conduct emergency hazard and risk assessments and recommend improvements to emergency preparedness.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver competency-based emergency response training programs for ERT members and site personnel.
  • Maintain training records, certifications, competency assessments, and qualification matrices.
  • Coordinate onboarding, refresher training, and annual recertification for Emergency Response Team members.
  • Ensure emergency response vehicles, firefighting equipment, breathing apparatus, rescue equipment, medical supplies, and communication systems are maintained in a state of operational readiness.
  • Coordinate equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, testing, and inventory management.
  • Participate in incident investigations, emergency debriefs, and corrective action planning to support continuous improvement.
  • Promote a safety-first culture by providing visible leadership and reinforcing safe work practices across the site.
  • Ensure compliance with the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia, applicable legislation, and company standards.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Health & Safety, Environment, contractors, BC Mine Rescue, and external emergency agencies to support emergency preparedness and response.
  • Prepare reports, maintain emergency response documentation, and monitor program performance to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
