Shift Information:Monday – Friday 10:00 am – 6 pm and/or Saturday 7:00 am – 2:00 pm, 35 hours per week

MajorResponsibilities:

HouseholdHazardousWasteDepots:

Accepts, collects, and handles household hazardous waste (HHW), electronic waste (WEEE), and other designated wastes brought to a HHW Depot under waste diversion programs developed under the Waste Diversion Transition Act, 2016 and Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016.

Determines the identity of chemicals, classifies chemicals into compatible groupings for storage, labels and stores chemicals, and other wastes as received from the public.

Conducts inspections of HHW Depots, conducts daily inventories of HHW received, completes manifests and shipping documents, and takes corrective action to ensure compliance with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) and requirements.

Interacts with contracted disposal/recycling service providers and communicates with residents on a daily basis.

Collects and reports statistics, prepares documentation for manifests, shipping and inventory of chemicals and wastes.

Performs chemical tests to categorize unknown chemicals or materials.

Provides the public with promotional and educational information through front-line interaction and/or answering inquiries on other solid waste management disposal and recycling options.

Determines quantities and orders standard material handling items.

Completes requisitions for supervisor’s approval.

Receives material and checks quantity.

Directs part-time staff by providing technical/functional instructions on HHW Depot operating procedures.

Utilizes computer systems to input/track HHW and WEEE information into associated databases.

Responds to and cleans up chemical and hazardous waste spills.

KeyQualifications:

Yourapplicationmustdescribeyourqualificationsas theyrelateto:

A degree or diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering/Technology or Environmental Sciences/Studies or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in the handling, management and treatment of hazardous, electronic waste and other waste materials.
