Job DescriptionMissionCIMA+ is growing and expanding its Earth and Environmental services across Ontario. The Natural Environment Team is looking for a Terrestrial Biologist to support projects from conception to execution. The candidate will join the existing team of biologists, environmental professionals, and field technicians. The focus of the work is the delivery of various types of projects’ natural heritage reports for a variety of sectors (energy, waterpower, transportation, land development etc.) for both public and private clients.

The successful candidate would have the opportunity to take part in our hybrid work model that includes flexible work hours, working from home and in one of our offices in Ottawa or around the GTA (Guelph, London, Kitchener, Burlington, Mississauga, Bowmanville).

This position will include a heavy focus on office work with seasonal opportunities for terrestrial field work. The office component would include proposals, report writing and impact analysis to support natural heritage projects. In the field, our current needs are for a candidate who can demonstrate high degree of skills with breeding birds (auditory), reptiles and flora.

This position will have room for career development and advancement including project and team management.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist the team and clients to scope assignments and write proposals.

Conduct field inventories for birds, reptiles and flora.

Participate in the drafting of impact evaluation reports, ecological studies, and environmental specifications, as well as other technical reports.

Analyse alternatives and assess and rank their potential to impact natural heritage features.

Develop site appropriate avoidance and mitigation measures.

Complete requests for authorizations and permits under the Endangered Species Act, or Species at Risk Act, for both small and large-scale projects in various types of environments.

Work with clients to find practical solutions that minimizes impacts to the natural environment.

Qualifications

Degree in Environmental Sciences with strong Ecology focus.

Minimum 6+ years of experience with a focus on the terrestrial environment.

Experience must demonstrate terrestrial expertise in study design, data collection, avian acoustical surveys, flora inventories, natural environment assessments, mitigation, and /or monitoring.

Strong understanding of relevant municipal, provincial and federal legislations, and policies.

Team player and ability to work with a diverse team across the entire province.
