Environmental Health & Safety Manager Jobs in Plattsmouth, NE at OFC/Schmidt Liquid Trucking Companies

Liquid Trucking Companies is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Manager to join our safety team and take the lead on the OSHA, environmental, and occupational safety side of our operation while also supporting broader safety and compliance efforts across the company. This role will report to the Director of Compliance and Risk and will work closely with operations, maintenance, terminal leadership, training, and the safety team to strengthen safety performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement throughout the business.

This position is primarily focused on OSHA-related programs, workplace safety, hazard identification, training, incident response, environmental compliance support, and field presence in our operations, while also assisting with select DOT/commercial transportation safety responsibilities as part of the overall safety team. The role will follow a split schedule between our Sioux City terminal and Plattsmouth, Nebraska terminal, with the expectation that the employee will regularly spend time in both locations. Candidates may live in either the Omaha, Nebraska area or the Sioux City, Iowa area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the company’s OSHA and occupational safety programs across terminal, shop, tank wash, maintenance, and operational environments.
  • Serve as the primary internal resource for workplace safety compliance, including hazard recognition, corrective action follow-up, training, inspections, audits, and policy development.
  • Maintain and improve safety programs related to:
  • OSHA compliance
  • Hazard communication
  • PPE
  • Lockout/tagout
  • Walking-working surfaces
  • Industrial hygiene exposure awareness
  • Emergency response readiness
  • Incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Contractor and visitor safety expectations where applicable
  • Conduct routine terminal, shop, yard, tank wash, and operational safety inspections and work directly with leaders to correct hazards and improve compliance.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, spills, and safety concerns; identify root causes and help implement practical corrective and preventive actions.
  • Help maintain required OSHA logs, safety records, training documentation, and compliance files.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training for employees, supervisors, and managers on OSHA and workplace safety topics.
  • Support environmental and chemical safety efforts including proper handling, storage, spill response readiness, and related compliance processes in a tanker and chemical transportation environment.
  • Partner with operations and leadership to build a strong field presence and a culture of accountability, ownership, and safe work practices.
  • Assist with workers’ compensation safety follow-up, return-to-work coordination support, and injury prevention efforts as needed.
  • Support the company’s overall risk management and claims prevention efforts through active safety engagement and follow-up.
  • Work closely with the Director of Compliance and Risk and the safety team on broader company initiatives, projects, investigations, and compliance priorities.
  • Provide support on DOT/FMCSA-related safety and compliance matters as needed, including helping the broader safety team with transportation safety initiatives, driver safety support, investigations, and related compliance projects.
  • Travel routinely between Plattsmouth, NE and Sioux City, maintaining a regular presence in both locations and building strong relationships with employees and leadership teams at each site.
  • Assist with other safety, compliance, and operational responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred Schedule / Work Structure

This role is intended to maintain a regular presence at both key operating locations and is expected to work a split schedule between the Sioux City terminal and Plattsmouth terminal, approximately two-thirds of time in one location and one-third in the other, based on business need and where the work is needed most. Exact scheduling can be adjusted based on operational priorities, incidents, projects, and training needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health, industrial safety, risk management, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
  • 3+ years of safety, EHS, OSHA, industrial, transportation, manufacturing, maintenance, or related operational safety experience required; stronger consideration for candidates with 5+ years in a safety leadership or management role.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety practices, incident investigation, training, inspections, and corrective action management.
  • Experience working in environments such as trucking, transportation, industrial operations, maintenance shops, tank wash operations, chemical handling, manufacturing, construction, or similar hands-on operations strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA safety and compliance is preferred, though this role will be primarily focused on the OSHA and workplace safety side of the operation.
  • Experience with multi-site safety oversight is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with drivers, technicians, wash bay personnel, office staff, supervisors, and senior leadership.
  • Strong documentation, organization, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable being in the field, addressing issues directly, and building credibility with operations teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel routinely between company locations.

Preferred Certifications

The following are helpful but not required:

  • OSHA 30 or OSHA 500/510 related training
  • CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, or similar safety certification
  • DOT / hazmat / transportation safety training or related experience
  • First aid / CPR / incident investigation training

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is practical, visible, organized, and willing to get into the operation—not just sit behind a desk. This person needs to be able to work with employees at all levels, spot risk before it becomes a bigger issue, follow through on corrective action, and help us continue strengthening safety across a broad and demanding operation. The right candidate will understand how to balance compliance, accountability, training, and common sense in a fast-moving trucking environment.

Compensation

Depending on experience, qualifications, certifications, and fit for the role. Stronger candidates with significant EHS leadership experience, multi-site oversight, and transportation/industrial safety background may be considered above the posted range.
