The Building Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. The technician serves as a technical resource to support Amazon within its data centers. Data‑center equipment that supports mission‑critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. Building Technicians also drive innovation while reducing operational costs. They are the front‑line respondents on electrical and mechanical issues affecting Amazon’s availability, including stand‑by diesel generators, switchboards, UPS, PDU, AHU, CRAHU, CRAC, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
This role requires the candidate to obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.
Responsibilities
Maintain and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment in the data center.
Support mission‑critical systems to ensure >99.999% uptime.
Implement and drive cost‑saving and innovation initiatives across facilities.
Respond promptly to electrical and mechanical issues to protect availability.
Basic Qualifications
Knowledge of network design and low‑voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Experience in data‑center engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant work experience.
Ability to work in physically demanding environments (e.g., on ladders, uneven terrain, reach/lean).

Salary for this position: 39.00–51.00 CAD hourly (CAN, AB, Airdrie or Calgary).
