Job Summary
The Emergency Vehicle Installer is responsible for installing, wiring, testing, and maintaining emergency equipment in police, fire, EMS, utility, and other specialty vehicles. This includes emergency lighting, sirens, radios, computer systems, cameras, partitions, consoles, and other vehicle upfit components. The technician ensures all installations meet safety, quality, and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Install emergency warning lights, sirens, speakers, vehicle window tinting and control systems.
Mount and wire communication equipment, including radios, antennas, and mobile data terminals.
Install vehicle accessories such as partitions, gun racks, prisoner transport systems, push bumpers, camera systems, and storage units.
Read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, installation instructions, and vehicle schematics.
Perform electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs.
Route and secure wiring harnesses while maintaining OEM vehicle standards.
Test installed equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with customer requirements.
Maintain detailed installation records and documentation.
Follow safety procedures and quality control standards.
Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and customers to complete projects on schedule.
Keep work areas clean and organized.
Assist with inventory management and equipment staging as needed.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
US Citizen preferred
Experience with automotive, electrical, or vehicle accessory installation preferred.
Knowledge of 12-volt vehicle electrical systems.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience installing emergency vehicle equipment for law enforcement, fire, or EMS fleets.
Familiarity of Sound off, Whelen, Code3 and other industrial lighting and sounding manufacturer equipment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
Ability to perform repetitive hand and tool operations.
Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise and vehicle equipment.
