Reporting to the Manager – Emergency Operations & Planning, the Emergency Management (EM) Technician provides a wide range of technical support and analysis for the regional emergency program. This position supports the Emergency Management Division by sharing technical and subject matter expertise as part of the Operations and Planning Team and participates in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) as required. The EM Technician keeps abreast of emergency management developments and initiatives and helps to develop and maintain a robust and resilient emergency program for the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD), the City of Duncan, the Town of Ladysmith, the Municipality of North Cowichan and the Town of Lake Cowichan.

Qualifications:

Degree (preferred) or Diploma in Emergency Management or a related field

Minimum of four (4) years experience in emergency preparedness, response or recovery sector, preferably in a local government setting

Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200

Class 5 BC Driver’s License (please submit a drivers abstract with your application)

Emergency Operations Centre experience is considered an asset

Experience in volunteer management and/or training delivery is considered an asset

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Hours of Work:

Guaranteed 35 hours of work per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and eligible for flex time. This position may be required to attend some evening and weekend meetings, and is required to participate in the on-call Duty Manager rotation for after-hours emergency management support. Following a successful in-office probation and training period, this position may be eligible for a hybrid in-office / work-from-home arrangement.
