The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert Policing Services is currently recruiting for two (2) Term Full-Time Emergency Communications Operator.

The Emergency Communications Operator is the first point of contact for all incoming calls to the St. Albert RCMP Detachment, including all Municipal Enforcement and 911 Emergency calls. This position is responsible for gathering and disseminating accurate information and is a key link between the public and the police services.

Main responsibilities include complaint taking, dispatching, answering emergency calls and providing assistance to the general public at the front counter and over the telephone. Emergency Communication Operators utilize detachment radio equipment, perform CPIC entries, prepare court documents and create/dispatch Municipal Enforcement files in addition to maintenance and retrieval tasks for various RCMP computer systems.

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 together with prior policing or dispatching experience and strong computer skills is necessary.
At least one (1) year of call-taking/dispatching experience is preferred
Certification from an Emergency Communications Program is considered an asset.
Experience with RCMP computer programs and familiarity with the RCMP environment is a definite asset.
The ability to deal with people in a polite, courteous and informed manner is essential. The ability to stay calm in a variety of high stress, demanding situations is required, as well as prioritizing and multi-tasking.
Must be able to obtain (and maintain) a RCMP issued Security Clearance.

Hours of Work

12-hour shifts. 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
Shifts may be altered to meet operational needs. The regular hourly work schedule is based on eighteen hundred and seventy-two (1872) hours annually.

Compensation

$63,329.76- $ 77,032.80 per annum. ($33.83 – $41.15 Per Hour) Eligible for benefit after six (6) months.
