DescriptionYour Role at GEI.GEI is seeking one casual on-call Ecohydrologist to join our ecological restoration team which includes expertise in terrestrial and aquatic ecology, species at risk, landscape architecture, climate change, Indigenous engagement, environmental engineering, hydrogeology, and fluvial geomorphology. The Ecohydrologist would work collaboratively with the natural science and engineering teams to develop, implement, and analyze site to watershed scale ecohydrological monitoring programs (baseline, during construction, post-restoration) for retained, created and to be restored wetland habitats. The Ecohydrologist would also provide technical advice to the natural science and engineering teams regarding the design, implementation and monitoring of mitigation, enhancement and restoration plans, in order to establish the required ecohydrological conditions to maintain/restore wetland habitats.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
Wetland habitat physical characterization and monitoring (e.g., hydrology, soil hydrophysical properties, biogeochemistry, carbon cycling)
Surface water/groundwater interactions assessment
Hydrological mapping of wetland ecosystems
Wetland water balance assessment and analysis
Hydrological/ecological interactions and impact assessment on vegetation communities
Liaise with internal practices outside of natural heritage, such as civil, surface water, geostructural and geotechnical engineering to provide innovative solutions to our clients’ challenges
Value working in a cohesive team environment both virtually and in-person
Provide staff mentorship
Minimum Qualifications
PhD Degree in ecohydrology, or related discipline
Proficiency in ecohydrological monitoring techniques
Expertise in statistical analysis of large datasets
Skilled in GIS and spatial data analysis
Practiced in working in multi-disciplinary teams
Creative, self-directed, and motivated to gain new knowledge and skills
Excellent technical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
