Overview

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Eating Disorders Case Manager provides consultation, case management and therapy to individuals and families affected by eating disorders. They assess clients, determine referral needs, provide group, family and individual therapy, liaise with community resources, formulate and implement treatment plans, and participate in interdisciplinary case conferences and service evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Assess client needs, develop treatment options, and facilitate utilization of community services.
  • Act as primary therapist and case manager: provide psychosocial and social assessment; deliver short and long‑term individual, group and family therapy using varied methods; manage cases and formulate treatment plans with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide referrals to community treatment alternatives such as residential programs, family therapy, marriage and separation counseling, alcohol and drug treatment, victim assistance, employee assistance programs, transition homes and vocational programs.
  • Deliver group therapy sessions focused on eating disorders and coordinate scheduling, preparation and resources.
  • Provide crisis therapy and ongoing case management in accordance with professional standards and policies.
  • Formulate and implement treatment plans, negotiate goal‑setting processes, and evaluate outcomes while respecting client dignity and self‑determination.
  • Maintain client records, documenting assessments, progress notes and reports; ensure confidentiality and compliance with the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Participate in, lead and develop local committees, case conferences and practice evaluations to improve service delivery.
  • Develop, coordinate and deliver in‑services, education sessions, presentations and training to staff, families and caregivers.
  • Maintain knowledge of mental health related to eating disorders through literature review, expert consultation and professional development.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new staff; provide internal training on eating disorders as requested.
  • Participate in program development and evaluation with the interdisciplinary team and Management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Clinical Counseling or another relevant health‑related discipline.
    • Two years of recent experience working with eating‑disordered clients or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
    • Eligibility to register with the relevant professional association.
    • Valid B.C. Driver’s License – Class 5 Personal Vehicle for work related purposes.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Demonstrated knowledge of eating‑disorder intervention strategies.
    • Ability to conduct client assessments using standardized mental health and eating‑disorder tools.
    • Strong planning, organizing, implementation and evaluation skills.
    • Excellent communication with individuals, groups and interdisciplinary professionals in a diverse community.
    • Collaboration skills in a multicultural, interdisciplinary team environment.
    • Effective written and verbal communication with clients, families, staff and community agencies.
    • Ability to prioritize workload in a complex environment.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Acts (Mental Health Act, Freedom of Information Act) and policies.
    • Capacity to educate and consult clients, families and healthcare professionals.
    • Experience coordinating and delivering in‑services, presentations and support groups.
    • Strong referral skills and knowledge of community resources.
    • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses and professional practice guidelines for various disorders.
    • Therapeutic skills in case management, individual and group therapy with adults experiencing mental disorders including eating disorders.
    • Proficiency with personal computers and related software applications.
    • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
