Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager Health, Safety and Wellness, this role is responsible for providing assistance as a member of Employee Health Services in the management of employee absence claims related to illness or injury, including Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims, Short Term Disability (STD) and Long Term Disability (LTD) claims.

Education

Post-secondary diploma or degree in Health Sciences, Human Resources or a related field of study.

An equivalent combination of education, knowledge and experience may be considered.

Knowledge

Minimum 1 year experience working in disability claims management, health services or health and safety.

Experience in a large unionized and multifaceted work environment (1000+ staff) and/or in a large Municipal/Public Sector – 24/7 Operations is preferred.

Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Human Rights legislation.

Previous experience working with the WSIB, filing insurance claims and communicating with third party providers.

Working towards Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Return To Work Coordinator (CRTWC) Certification, and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Designation or experience with Occupational Health & Safety is preferred.

Experience with Schedule 2, experience with Disability Management Software i.e. Parklane system and/or experience with Ergonomics is preferred.

CHRP designation is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide assistance in the management of employee absence claims related to occupational and non-occupational absences. (35% of time)

Processes and evaluates suitability of medical documentation related to short term absences where medical is requested outside of the standard requirements set out in the respective Collective Agreement.

Assists in completing the Employer portion of Long-Term Disability Claim Application, calculating elimination periods and preparing the employee package to be sent.

Assists with calculating employee earnings as required by third party service providers as required.

Returns phone calls regarding general questions about process.

Connects with third party service providers to update claim status information.

Provide administrative support to Employee Health Services. (30% of time)

Triages Employee Health Services inbox ensuing that time sensitive emails are flagged for immediate action.

Validates medical receipts received are eligible for reimbursement and processes the reimbursement accordingly.

Assists in documenting and maintaining up-to-date standard operating procedures.

Updates applicable intranet sites with updated forms, templates and general information.

Assists with updating and maintaining accurate up-to-date libraries of forms and templates used in Employee Health Services processes.

Runs various reports required to capture data for Employee Health Services.

Document and track services rendered from third party service providers and coordinate cost information from originating department. (20% of time)
