Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Directional Drilling Locator to join our growing telecommunications construction team. This role is critical in supporting underground utility installation projects by accurately tracking and guiding drilling operations. The ideal candidate has experience with locating equipment, a strong understanding of underground utility safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced field environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain locating equipment to track and guide directional drilling operations.
- Accurately read and interpret bore plans, utility maps, and locates.
- Communicate continuously with the drill operator to ensure precise bore path alignment.
- Identify and avoid existing underground utilities in compliance with safety regulations.
- Perform pre-job site inspections and assist with job setup and teardown.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Troubleshoot locating issues and adjust techniques as necessary for varying ground conditions.
- Maintain detailed records of bore paths, depths, and job progress.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Locator in directional drilling or underground utility construction preferred.
- Familiarity with locating systems (e.g., DigiTrak, Vermeer, Subsite).
- Ability to read construction plans and utility locate markings.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of fiber optic and telecommunications infrastructure.
- CDL license (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working on HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) crews.
Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform manual labor as needed.
