As a member of our Engineering Services Team, you will help create drawing packages for our utility customers. As a Protection and Controls Designer, you will apply your technical and functional knowledge in the creation of drawings such as wiring diagrams, schematic diagrams, and cable schedules. You will also support drafting tasks during peak load times.

A Day In The Life

Every day at Hubbell is different and you’ll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you’ll make a difference by:

  • Yellow-line wiring diagrams to match schematics and front view layouts to ensure drawing quality
  • Create point-to-point panel wiring diagrams from given schematics and front views
  • Create cable lists and connection drawings for field equipment from given schematics
  • Create project specific schematic drawings from generic customer standard schematic drawings
  • Revise existing customer schematic and wiring diagrams for retrofit of new equipment
  • Manage percent completes for the project and updating associated documents
  • Calculate voltage drop with associated cables/wires
  • Assist with drafting support during peak load times
  • What will help you thrive in this role?

    Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent
    Extensive direct technical experience in a similar field
    Extensive knowledge of reading electrical drawings
    Comprehensive knowledge of MS office suite
    Extensive knowledge of electrical circuits
    Ability to create wiring diagrams from scratch using schematic diagrams
    Ability to create schematic diagrams from scratch using one-line diagrams and scoping documents
    Ability to build cable schedules from wiring diagrams
    Excellent communication skills both oral and written
    Ability to multitask given projects based on deadlines
    Ability to communicate effectively with other OEC firms and clients
    Ability to travel to Iron Mountain, MI (United States) up to 5% of time including for onboarding

    Working knowledge of CAD software to include AutoCAD, Micro Station
    Knowledge of when to apply voltage drop
    Working knowledge of protection & control principles in the power industry
    Knowledge of markup up drawings using pdf editing software (Bluebeam, Adobe, etc.)
