We are seeking a senior Data Strategy Consultant to define and articulate an enterprise data warehouse and analytics strategy, leveraging the Microsoft Azure / Fabric ecosystem for a client. This role will establish the strategic foundation required to secure funding for a modern data platform.
Duration: 3 months + for initial phase (fulltime/fractional)
Location: Remote (client is in Toronto)
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of an enterprise data strategy and roadmap aligned to business objectives
- Assess current-state data landscape (systems, data flows, reporting, governance)
- Define target-state architecture leveraging Azure Data Platform / Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Synapse, Power BI, etc.)
- Develop a Data Warehouse / Lakehouse strategy (ingestion, modeling, storage, consumption layers)
- Establish data governance, security, and operating model recommendations
- Identify key use cases and business value drivers (reporting, analytics, AI readiness)
- Create a phased implementation roadmap, including timelines and priorities
- Develop cost estimates and investment model to support funding approval
- Produce executive-level materials (board-ready strategy, business case, and roadmap)
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops across business and IT teams
Requirements:
- 10–15+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or data strategy roles
- Proven experience defining enterprise data warehouse / analytics strategies
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure data stack (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, Data Lake, Power BI)
- Experience with modern data architectures (Lakehouse, Medallion architecture, data mesh concepts)
- Ability to translate technical strategy into business value and executive narratives
- Experience building business cases and funding justifications for large data initiatives
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including C-level / board-facing communication
- Hands-on enough to validate architecture decisions and guide implementation direction
Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric specifically (or early adoption environments)
- Background in AI/ML readiness or data platform enablement
- Experience in regulated industries (if relevant to your client)
