Position Summary
The Data Analyst, Finance plays a critical role in transforming raw financial and operational data into trusted, analytics‑ready datasets for end users across Finance and the business. This role combines strong technical skills in data transformation and ETL processes with a solid understanding of financial accounting, financial reporting, and financial planning & analysis (FP&A). Working closely with Finance, IT, and Analytics teams, this role ensures that data flowing through the enterprise data platform (i.e. Snowflake) for finance users and stakeholders is accurate, well‑structured, well‑documented, and aligned to financial concepts and reporting requirements.
The role is essential in enabling self‑service reporting, management insights, and enterprise decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Cleansing and Transformation: Design and manage data structures within the data platform environment (i.e. Snowflake). Implement rigorous cleaning protocols within Snowflake to resolve data discrepancies and ensure the accuracy of financial or operational datasets. Transform data to be reporting ready for use with external tools like Power Query for access to “single source of truth.”
- Data Governance & Quality: Assist in supporting data governance practices for finance data. This includes maintaining thorough documentation of data definitions and lineage, enforcing data quality controls and reconciliation checks, and ensuring proper data security and compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Data & Business Analysis: Translate Finance and FP&A reporting needs into reliable data solutions by performing exploratory analysis, defining data requirements, validating data through UAT, and data analysis to identify gaps, ensure data quality, and continuously improve reporting and data processes.
Required Qualifications
Education: College diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business or Data Analytics, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Work Experience: 3+ years of experience in financial analytics, data analysis, or a role supporting finance or corporate reporting. (Asset: experience supporting ERP implementations or finance transformation initiatives; experience in the healthcare, insurance, or financial services sector.)
Computer
Skills:
Proficiency with data analysis using cloud‑based data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure), visualization/transformation tools (e.g., Advanced Excel, Power Query/BI, Python), and ability to learn new data technologies or programming languages, e.g. Python/SQL.
Other
Qualifications:
Snow Pro Certified, Certified Analytics Professional (CAP);
Microsoft Certified Data Analyst Associate (Power BI); and/or a professional designation or progress toward one, such as CPA or CFA.
