We are currently searching for a highly motivated Data Analyst who is also very familiar with bioinformatics. The successful candidate will focus on the analysis of large Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) datasets with in-depth knowledge of data-handling. This position will also provide opportunities for the acquisition of cutting-edge skills in peptide-related research, research planning and strategy, and data analysis and interpretation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
● Apply bioinformatics methods to perform analysis of data collected from labs.
● Record all analysis steps in an accurate, timely and clearly presented manner, and use this to prepare data summaries and reports when required.
● Prepare scientific manuscripts.
● Complete projects in a timely fashion and work in a collaborative team environment.
● Adhere to security policies to encrypt all data on electronic devices, such as laptops, desktops and USB drives, to prevent unauthorized access, data loss or confidentiality breaches.
● Participate in the entire development lifecycle of data analysis suites.
● Clear communication with stakeholders on expectations and timelines.
Required Skills & Experience
You will need to be highly proficient with the following technologies and practices.
● BSc. or equivalent education in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science.
● Extensive programming experience with Python and R
● Experience using git for version control.
● Skills in statistical analysis (ANOVA, regression, clustering, differential enrichment analysis) and biological interpretation of data is preferred.
● Strong knowledge and experience with relational database is preferred.
● Previous working experience in an active research laboratory is preferred.
● Ability to balance competing priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
● Efficient written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to a wide range of audiences.
● Excellent attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills
This is a full-time position and offers a comprehensive salary and benefits package.
Location: 48HD laboratories are located on campus of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB, Canada. Day-to-day presence on location is preferred, a hybrid work model might be considered in certain cases.
