About the Role
Meuer is looking for a detail-oriented, art-loving framer with a creative problem-solving mindset. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys design, takes pride in precise, high-quality work, and has good time management — helping customers bring their art, photos, and keepsakes to life.
Position Type: Part-Time, with potential for Full-Time (typically 15–25 hours/week to start; days and hours flexible based on shop needs, including one weekend day per month, 10am–4pm) Location: In-shop, West Side Madison / Middleton, WI
What You’ll Do
- Measure, cut, and assemble custom frames using mat board, glass/Plexi, and mouldings
- Cut mats and glass/Plexi to precise specifications
- Mount and fit artwork, photographs, documents, and objects using appropriate techniques (hinging, floating, dry-mounting, etc.)
- Operate and maintain shop equipment, including mat cutters, frame joiners, and glass cutting tools
- Read and execute work orders accurately, including moulding, glazing, mounting, and mat specifications
- Assist customers with design consultations and pricing questions as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all shop safety protocols, particularly around glass handling and cutting equipment
- Communicate proactively about order timelines, materials on hand, and any issues that arise
What We’re Looking For
- Reliable and consistent — able to fully commit to scheduled shifts
- Background in art, art history, or a related field (fine arts, photography, design) — not required
- Experience in custom picture framing preferred; will train the right candidate with strong hand skills and attention to detail
- Comfort using sharp tools and glass-cutting equipment safely
- Steady hands and patience for precision work
- Good communication skills for interacting with customers and teammates
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with mat cutters (e.g., Fletcher or similar) and frame joining equipment
- Experience with woodworking
- Comfortable with Mac OS and general software/computer use (order tracking, point-of-sale, etc.)
