The Position
Reporting to the Custodial and Housekeeping Supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties in the academic building, and housekeeping duties in the student residences during the conference season. The Custodian is responsible for health and safety compliance.
This is 100%FTE position at 37.5 hrs / week
Responsibilities
Vacuum/clean halls, classrooms, offices, and gym
Clean washrooms and restock paper and soap supplies on a daily basis
Clean custodial closets regularly and refill containers with environmentally friendly cleaning solutions
Dust and mop floors.
Clean walls, doors, and glass/windows
Operate commercial/heavy equipment to clean floors
Lift and move furniture for set-up of classrooms, common areas and the gym for events
Perform other duties that are similar in scope and complexity as assigned by supervisor
Preferred Skills and Attributes
ability to work independently
ability and willingness to work daytime and evening shifts and some weekends
ability to accept direction and follow a schedule
ability to meet expected standards of cleanliness and neatness for campus buildings/property
must possess physical strength/ability to perform the actions of lifting, pulling, pushing, and bending that are necessary to perform job tasks
ability to supervise and train student employees including the organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling of work assignments
WHMIS safety certification
Education, Training & Certifications
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
Previous WHMIS and Health & Safety training is an asset
Previous experience in custodial work is an asset
