About the Role

The Bachelor of Child Studies (BCST) invites applications for a part-time sessional appointment for the Fall 2026 semester which will commence on September 3, 2026 and end on December 22, 2026. The BCST is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, experienced and qualified Child and Youth Care practitioner with the ability to teach the following course:

CHST  Studies in Systems and Social Policy (Early Learning and Child Care Focus)

Offered:
In-person, Tuesdays 8:30am – 11:20am

In this course, students examine current legislation, policies and systems relevant to working with children, youth and families in Alberta, with a focus on the early learning and child care sector. Students explore the relationship between social problems, policy development, and service delivery, and engage in analysis of how policies are implemented at local, regional, and provincial levels. Emphasis is placed on developing students’ ability to critically analyze policy, understand its impact on practice, and consider implications for equity, inclusion, and advocacy within child- and family-serving systems.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outline, course activities, lesson preparation and assessments, and course Blackboard site; and
  • Administration: submit course attendance sheets, course outline signature forms, input final grades upon course completion, and participate in scheduled program meetings.
  • Qualifications

    Applicants must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in early childhood education or related
    discipline.

    Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

  • Expertise in social policy analysis, particularly within the context of children and families
  • Knowledge of Alberta’s legislative and policy landscape in early learning and child care
  • Relevant professional experience in policy development, implementation, or advocacy
