Qikiqtaaluk Corporation seeks an experienced Corporate Controller with a thorough knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises and financial policies, procedures and directives. As a key member of the finance team, the incumbent will plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions of the Corporation under the direction of the CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions;
- Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results;
- Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements;
- Coordinating activities of external auditors;
- Providing management with timely information vital to the decision-making process;
- Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement to CFO and implementing new processes, as required;
- Evaluating accounting and internal control systems, offering recommendations for improvement to CFO and updating controls, as required;
- Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, offering recommendations for improvement to CFO and updating, as required;
- Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance;
- Hiring, training, overseeing, and retaining skilled accounting staff; and
- Managing outsourced finance and accounting services.
Qualifications and Skills required:
- 10 years’ experience in Accounting Role and 3 years’ experience as Controller;
- MBA in Finance or Accounting or CPA is required;
- Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team;
- Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the for-profit sector;
- Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development;
- Knowledge and/or experience with Nunavut and Northern Canada is an asset;
- Proven ability to work with demanding deadlines, independently and with a team;
- Excellent organization skills and strong attention to details;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment;
- Strong work ethic, sense of responsibility and confidentiality;
- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks, likely with competing priorities.
