The Content Creator – Graphic Design is the proactive visual champion of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board brand. The primary focus of this role is to act as a positive creative force, driving forward the District's brand and fostering deep engagement with students, families, and staff through compelling graphic design, visual storytelling, and multimedia across public and internal channels. While the role is centered on proactive visual brand building, it remains deeply integrated into the strategic operations of the Board. As a necessary component of managing the District's visual communications, the incumbent must routinely handle and visually translate highly confidential and embargoed information, including sensitive employee matters, collective bargaining updates, legal issues, and Board governance decisions, prior to their public release. The outcome of this role is a vibrant, trusted, and accessible visual identity that celebrates educational success while transparently navigating organizational challenges when required.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Digital Media, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- Preference will be given to candidates with specialized certification in Corporate Brand Strategy or Accessible Document Design (AODA compliance).
- 3 to 5 years of experience in corporate or public sector graphic design, with a strong portfolio of proactive brand building, community engagement, and digital/print visual storytelling, including experience working in a unionized public sector environment, handling visual communications related to labor relations, corporate restructuring, and internal staff campaigns.
- Advanced proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects).
- Experience with web design/CMS systems, photography/videography, and Bilingualism (English/French) is highly preferred.
- Exceptional ability to distill complex, dense, or politically sensitive data into compelling, empathetic, and positive visual narratives (infographics, charts, multimedia).
- Exceptional judgment and discretion when handling highly confidential, sensitive, or embargoed information.
- Strong collaborative skills and adaptability to jump into social media, video, or web projects to support team priorities.
- High-level project management skills with the ability to pivot seamlessly between celebratory brand promotion, internal culture-building, and serious crisis design work under tight deadlines.
- Deep understanding of proactive brand strategy, visual identity systems, and internal employee engagement tactics.
- Mastery of visual design principles, typography, color theory, and layout for both print and digital mediums.
- Understanding of public sector governance, labor relations dynamics, and crisis communication frameworks.
- Thorough knowledge of AODA design requirements, privacy legislation (MFIPPA), and copyright laws as they apply to visual content and student media consents.
