Overview
Work for a successful family owned general contracting and construction management company. With over six decades of expertise in civil, commercial, industrial, institutional, and high-rise residential construction, our client is a reputable company recognized for delivering quality work on time and within budget.
As the on-site Construction Estimator, prepare and evaluate bids and drawings for major projects such as luxury condominiums, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, schools, car dealerships, and more.
MISSION
The Construction Estimator evaluates bid specifications and drawings, ensuring everything required to successfully tender and win the project is obtained. The incumbent will also follow-up with subcontractors to ensure that bids are received. The Construction Estimator will work with the Project Management teams to follow-up on bids and budgets to close the business.
The Pod Group is partnering with this company to place an organized and detail-oriented Construction Estimator.
PRIORITIES
Bid Administration:
Prepare and maintain status of plan reproduction
Solicit and maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors
Prepare subcontractor bid packages and RFQs
Show creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors
Submit 100% of bids and budgets by the bid deadline – no exceptions
Complete spec summary form to start tendering
Project & Subcontractor Management:
Develop RFI’s and clarifications and ensure adequate subcontractor coverage
Perform a comprehensive “bid day” analysis and scoping of specific assigned trades
Consistently follow up on submitted bids and budgets with Architect and/or Construction Manager to close business
Properly turn over bid documents and subcontractor buyout information to Project Management in a timely manner (Goal is 100% of awarded projects turned over to project management team within 24 hours of notification)
Complete additional and ad-hoc projects and duties as required
Requirements
TALENTS & EXPERTISE
Post-secondary education in business, accounting, engineering, or related field.
5+ years of experience in construction projects estimating
3+ years of experience in construction project management/design build
Ability to review and understand construction specifications, drawings, construction plans, and complete scope of work.
Ability to quickly analyze, compare, and interpret detailed and poorly defined information, and be able to make sound and accurate judgments based on best available information
Aptitude for mathematics.
Competence in creating a complete bid price using construction database estimating software and expert use of Microsoft Office Suite.
Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
