About the Position
The compost facility operator creates nutrient rich compost to enhance soils by transforming organic seafood waste and carbon materials into a compost.
Key duties include mixing organic seafood waste with a carbon source to create compost piles with the use of a front-end loader and mixer. Monitoring temperatures and moisture levels, aerating compost piles, turning windrows, managing odors, screening for contaminants and light maintenance of equipment and buildings. This position involves some physical aspects, working primarily outdoors with organic materials and equipment, environmental processes related to composting, and adhering to safety and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities
- Receives organic seafood waste and mixes it with a carbon source using a front-end loader and mixer to create compost piles.
- Monitor compost piles to help maintain proper airflow, temperature, and moisture levels to ensure optimal conditions for composting and the minimization of odors.
- Operates front end loaders, mixer and screener to move and process materials.
- Maintains daily logs of materials coming into and out of the facility as well as compost pile temperatures.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of work areas and compost processing sites.
- Loads finished compost into trucks and trailers
- Follows safety and company procedures
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Data Interpretation: Ability to interpret data to adjust composting procedures.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to operate a front-end loader, mixer and screener and perform minor maintenance on equipment.
- Physical Aspects: Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and working in outdoor environments, including exposure to odors, dust, and, extreme weather.
- Safety: Knowledge of safety procedures, including handling materials and operating heavy machinery.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
