DescriptionThe Community Ministries Worker assists in organization of food bank and distribution of donations.
Key Responsibilities
Conducts initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client
Provide emergency assistance and/or other forms of direct service for clients applicable to the program;
Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records.
Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the food bank and family services area
Reports any problems and work in concert with the community ministries supervisor.
Ensures that proper safety precautions and hygiene standards are followed, including universal precautions.
May be required to ensure that the building is secure and that safety standards are always met or exceeded.
Ensures proper lifting, twisting & reaching techniques are used during job performance.
Ensures high standards of sanitation and cleanliness are maintained throughout the foodbank
Demonstrates a high standard of personal hygiene.
Participates in monthly workplace inspections.
Communicates clearly with other staff members and/or volunteers in a positive and encouraging manner as they assist in providing service to guests.
Maintains product, service and market knowledge.
Always treats guests and other staff with respect and dignity.
Perform other position-related duties as required
Education/Certifications
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12 / High School diploma, plus additional education in the social work or human services field
Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of one academic year is an asset
Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certification
WHMIS Training & Universal Precautions Training
Online New Hire Health and Safety Courses
Other training as required by contract or The Salvation Army
Experience
A minimum of one year of experience.
Required Skills/Knowledge
Willingness to adhere to the Mission, Vision, and Values of The Salvation Army
Fluent in spoken and written English
Excellent team and interpersonal skills
Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds
Good computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Able to handle physical demands, which include lifting/carrying items up to 30 pounds
Has the ability to stand for extended periods of time
The performance of the job requires attentive listening (empathy to guests/volunteers/co-workers) and the ability to give directions.
HOURS:
Full time hours. 37.5 weekly
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
Background check consent.
A clear vulnerable sector screening.
A clean drivers abstract.
Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
