Shell is seeking a Commercial Fuel Demand Analyst to join its team in Calgary.

Commercial Fuels (CF) is the customer-facing business unit within T&S Products, playing a critical role in the success of the Canada IPU. The CF team is responsible for securing the most value-accretive outlets for manufacturing equity volumes in the Canadian inland market, while supporting Trading by developing domestic positions that enable import optimization.

The Commercial Fuels Demand Analyst is responsible for accurate demand forecasting across Canada, as well as collecting, collating, and analyzing demand data and market trends to generate business insights for Trading and Supply Products. This role also serves as the customer focal point for price risk programs and external digital portals.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • In-month Demand Management – accountable for demand forecasting accuracy and reporting. Operate demand management tools, produce demand analysis and forecast, and deliver insights via Power BI.
  • Evaluate planned performance against latest estimate projections.
  • Partner with KAMs to analyze reports and identify root causes of over/under-lifts.
  • Maintain the DFA dashboard and support quarterly business reviews alongside Key Account Managers.
  • Develop short and medium-term (30/60 days to 1 year) demand forecasts by product and location.
  • Analyze, calculate, implement, and manage CF volume allocations using the third-party TABS tool.
  • Manage overrides in TABS, including monitoring and approving/rejecting customer volume requests.
  • Lead the progression of volume opportunities from identification through internal analysis and decision points; track insights and provide supporting data and commentary.
  • Execute the CF risk management program, interfacing with customers and Shell Trading desks to ensure deals are completed and managed to fruition.
  • Maintain and continuously improve Power BI dashboards.
  • Act as the focal point for CF demand reporting and analysis, providing updates in daily, weekly, and monthly forums (e.g., WIST, Operations, Handshake).
  • Monitor the CF BTA inbox to identify potential and missed opportunities.
  • Maintain logs of supply disruptions, pricing movements, and anomalies impacting actual vs. planned volumes.
  • Deliver monthly reporting and maintain associated dashboards.

Qualifications

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for any role other than the current employer.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an analytical field.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in supply chain management or oil products marketing in Canada.
  • Experience in demand forecasting.
  • Experience in oil products supply and/or distribution (preferred).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Power BI; proficiency in SAP and Python (databases and libraries).
  • Ability to engage in regular virtual face-to-face interactions with external stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical capability; comfortable working with data in dynamic and uncertain environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to build credibility quickly with internal and external partners.
  • Proven ability to generate high-quality business insights.
  • Project management experience.
  • Willingness to provide flexible customer support, including occasional after-hours assistance and emergency support outside regular business hours, including weekends if needed.
  • Willingness to work three (3) days a week from The Bow office.
