Purcell Collegiate School (PCS) is accepting applications for a permanent, full- and part-time positions with Purcell Hockey Academy (PHA) as:

COACHES (16U/19U Girls’ Prep Hockey)

The successful candidates will play a key role in an expanding hockey academy program dedicated to fostering growth and development across all aspects of each participant’s experience as a student and an athlete—on the ice, at school, and in the community.

BACKGROUND

Purcell Hockey Academy, a division of Purcell Collegiate School, has three female hockey teams: one at the 16U AAA level and two at the 19U AAA level. Our teams are members of the Female Super League (FSL). Participating student-athletes attend Purcell Collegiate School in the morning and practice and train in the afternoon, on the ice at the Kimberley Civic Centre and off the ice at a variety of partner venues for yoga, CrossFit, and climbing. In the evening, boarding students have the opportunity to participate in study halls, school clubs, and other extracurricular activities.

ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Hockey and working closely with the other members of the PHA coaching staff, Head and Assistant Coaches are responsible for the hockey-related experience of the student-athletes on their team. This includes but is not limited to:

  • develop and implement all on-ice activities, off-ice training, team-building activities, and volunteer-service engagements
  • develop and implement annual practice plan, weekly practice schedules, and daily practice plans
  • lead and supervise on-ice practice sessions
  • develop and implement game strategies and team tactics, prepare players for games, manage the bench in game situations, and prepare written and verbal player evaluations
  • transport players as required to and from school, games, etc.
  • supervise and support growth and development of assistant coach and training staff
  • organize, attend and participate in meetings and conferences
  • liaise with the school to support student progress including integrating and facilitating study halls into road trips at hotels or other appropriate venues

PHA is also welcoming applications from goaltending and other specialized coaches.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in a related field of study (Education, Kinesiology, etc.)
  • strong communication, administrative, organizational and time management skills
  • ability to manage a budget efficiently and effectively
  • experience working with youth from 12 – 19 years of age
  • coaching experience at the AAA, junior, college or professional levels
  • playing experience at higher levels and/or work experience in an academy setting is an asset
  • positive, professional attitude and overall approach to coaching, mentoring, teaching, and leading
  • strong listening, written and verbal communications skills
  • ability to build positive relationships with players, their parents, and your colleagues
  • willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally with team and for recruiting purposes
  • proactive, organized and prepared with flexibility to adapt plans as needed to ensure the needs of your student-athletes and the goals of the organization are being met
  • approachable and supportive (not only to the student-athletes on your team but also to your colleagues, other students in the school, etc.)
  • lifelong learner willing to participating in professional development and accept guidance and support from the Hockey Academy General Manager and/or other senior staff
  • strong computer skills and experience working with both Microsoft and Google business/education programs (preferred)
  • social media awareness and ability (preferred)
  • experience with video editing and production in support of producing tape for team review and player promotional reels for recruiters to review (preferred)
  • Class 5 Driver’s License required (Class 4 Driver License preferred) and a current driver’s abstract
  • Criminal Record Check (CRC) and vulnerable sector query

Pay: $54,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
