Location: Hitacu, BC (qʷayac̓iikʔiis Childcare Centre)
Position Summary
The Childcare Team Lead provides day-to-day operational leadership of the Daycare and Afterschool/Youth Programs. The Team Lead supports staff supervision, scheduling, licensing compliance at the operational level, and serves as the first point of contact for staff and families. The Team Lead may provide direct program support as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) when operationally required. The Team Lead ensures smooth daily program delivery and escalates significant concerns to the Childcare Manager as appropriate.
Primary/Core Responsibilities
Daily Program Operations
- Oversee daily program flow and classroom coverage
- Ensure staffing ratios are maintained at all times
- Monitor program plans to ensure smooth implementation
- Conduct regular staff check-ins to support effective program delivery
- Identify operational challenges and communicate program needs to the Childcare Manager
- Assume operational leadership of the program during the Manager’s absence and notify the Manager of significant matters as appropriate
Scheduling & Staffing
- Develop and manage weekly staff schedules in alignment with licensing ratios, program requirements, and approved budget parameters
- Coordinate coverage for staff absences, vacation, and breaks
- Adjust daily staffing as needed to maintain compliance and program continuity
- Monitor overtime implications and notify the Childcare Manager of potential budget impacts
- Review timesheets for accuracy and approval when delegated by the Childcare Manager
- Participate in onboarding in collaboration with the Childcare Manager
Administrative & Operational Support
- Create purchase orders and process program-related bills in accordance with organizational financial procedures
- Purchase materials, supplies, and program resources within approved budget parameters
- Inform the Childcare Manager of significant or unplanned expenditures
Frontline Supervision & Support
- Provide day-to-day operational supervision and direction to program staff
- Act as the first point of contact for routine staff concerns
- Provide coaching, guidance, and feedback to support staff performance
- Address minor workplace conflicts and support constructive resolution
- Identify and document performance concerns and communicate them to the Childcare Manager
- Implement direction provided by the Childcare Manager regarding performance management or corrective action
- Escalate significant performance, disciplinary, or workplace concerns to the Childcare Manager as appropriate
Family Communication
- Serve as the first point of contact for routine parent questions and concerns
- Support the creation and distribution of newsletters and program updates
- Assist with enrollment transitions and orientation of new families
- Address minor parent concerns and escalate complex or sensitive matters to the Childcare Manager
Licensing & Documentation Support
- Monitor daily documentation and practices to support compliance with licensing regulations
- Ensure required forms, attendance records, and ratios are maintained accurately
- Support timely documentation of incidents and immediately notify the Childcare Manager of serious occurrences
- Prepare documentation for review by the Childcare Manager
- Support health, safety, and incident reporting processes
Education & Experience
Required:
- Certified Early Childhood Educator (ECE) in good standing in British Columbia
- Experience working in a licensed Child Care Centre
- Current Child Care First Aid certification
- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)
- Medical clearance and up-to-date immunization status
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and clear Driver’s Abstract
Preferred:
- Infant/Toddler and/or Special Needs Specialization
- Experience working with Indigenous children and families
- Class 4 Driver’s Licence

- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office

Working Conditions
