Position Description
The Child & Youth Counsellor will provide direct care to children/ youth and their families experiencing acute crisis, mental health issues, or eating disorders on 7A.
Here’s What You’ll Get To Do
- Develop and implement a plan of care in collaboration with the child/family and the multidisciplinary team
- Work within the ‘Harm Reduction’ model of care for patients as individuals and within groups
- Facilitate and co-facilitate therapeutic groups
- Assist with the school program
- Work with adolescents in a ‘Primary Worker’ function to assist with the development of treatment goals
- Work with the adolescents to acknowledge successes and strategies to support their efforts as they transition to the community.
Here’s What You’ll Need
- Certification as a Child and Youth Counsellor
- Child and Youth Counselling Diploma from a community college with a Baccalaureate degree in a related field (preferred)
- Professional membership with the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors (OACYC)
- Broad experience in mental health services for children and adolescents
- Minimum 3 years dedicated experience in crisis management
- Experience working with patients coping with mental health issues related to anxiety and depression
- Experience with patients with attention issues (i.e. ADHD)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the health care team and to take initiative when appropriate
- Excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking and problem solving
- Demonstrate commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
