Job Summary:The Charge Nurse plays a pivotal role in coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the nursing department. As a key member of the nursing team, the Charge Nurse ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. In collaboration with the nursing supervisor, they provide leadership, supervision, and support to the nursing team.

Responsibilities

Supervision and Leadership:

Provide leadership and guidance to nursing staff, including, licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and nursing assistants.

Delegate tasks and assignments effectively, considering staff skills and workload.

Serve as a resource and mentor to nursing staff, offering support and guidance as needed.

Assist in administrative duties and coverage for the nursing supervisor as required.

Patient Care:

Assess patient needs and develop care plans in collaboration with the clinical, support and management teams.

Monitor patient status and condition, intervening as necessary to ensure optimal care.

Administer medications, treatments, and procedures as prescribed by physicians.

Communication and Collaboration:

Communicate effectively with facility team members, from all organizational departments

Coordinate patient care activities and collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations.

Advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed promptly.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:

Maintain accurate and complete patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to patient documentation and confidentiality.

Quality Improvement:

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as needed.

Monitor adherence to evidence-based practices and clinical protocols, promoting best practices in patient care.

Emergency Response:

Respond to emergencies and crises within the healthcare facility, providing leadership and direction to nursing staff.

Coordinate with other departments and emergency services to ensure appropriate response and patient care.

Qualifications

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license

Previous experience in a clinical nursing role, with demonstrated leadership skills

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment

Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards of practice in nursing
