Role Summary
As a Dispensary Cashier / Cannabis Retail Associate, you will be the first point of contact for customers, assisting with product selection, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with Alberta’s cannabis regulations. You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality service while adhering to AGLC rules and maintaining the safety and integrity of the store.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers, answer questions, and guide them through product selections
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems, process cash / debit / credit transactions accurately
- Verify customer eligibility and confirm legal age requirements
- Maintain compliance with AGLC policies, including checking IDs and refusing sales to underage or ineligible customers
- Conduct regular inventory checks, restocking shelves, and maintaining store presentation
- Assist in opening and closing duties, cash counts, and daily reconciliation
- Monitor security, report suspicious activity, and follow store safety protocols
- Stay knowledgeable about cannabis product types, dosing, effects, and regulations
- Participate in required training (e.g. SellSafe) and mandatory regulatory updates
Regulatory / Compliance Requirements
- New employees must complete the AGLC SellSafe Cannabis Staff Training within 30 days of starting employment. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis+2Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis+2
- As of July 2, 2025, applicants for retail cannabis store positions are no longer required to hold a Qualified Cannabis Worker (QCW) certificate or submit a separate QCW application. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis
- Supervisory roles may still require criminal record checks at the discretion of the licensee or store. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis+1

Qualifications
- Prior retail, cash handling, or customer service experience (1 year preferred)
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with customers
- Attention to detail, accuracy with calculations, and reliability
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable learning cannabis product knowledge and regulatory requirements
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
