The Opportunity

Our client, a growing and entrepreneurial freight forwarding and logistics organization, is seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to support expansion across Canadian and U.S. transportation markets.

This role combines both new business development and account management responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a true “hunter-farmer” environment — someone capable of generating new opportunities while also developing and growing long-term client relationships.

The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding market presence, building strategic customer partnerships, and delivering customized freight and logistics solutions across air, ocean, ground transportation, trucking, and customs brokerage services.

Key Responsibilities

📈 Business Development & Sales

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across industries with domestic and international shipping needs
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective clients through proactive outreach, networking, cold calling, and lead follow-up
  • Work from both self-generated leads and company-supported warm lead campaigns
  • Conduct discovery meetings to understand operational challenges and propose tailored logistics solutions
  • Prepare pricing proposals, service agreements, and commercial presentations
  • Negotiate contracts and close new business opportunities
  • Represent the organization at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions
  • Collaborate closely with operations and pricing teams to ensure commercially viable and competitive solutions
  • Meet or exceed revenue growth and business development targets

🤝 Account Management & Client Retention

  • Manage and grow customer relationships after onboarding, while partnering closely with internal Account Managers
  • Build long-term relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Identify opportunities for organic account growth across additional services, trade lanes, and transportation modes
  • Support contract renewals and maintain strong commercial positioning
  • Act as a liaison between clients and internal operational teams to ensure service excellence
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, pipeline updates, and forecasting reports through Logitude CRM

📊 Commercial Strategy & Market Intelligence

  • Track industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activity
  • Provide regular sales forecasts and pipeline reporting
  • Participate in internal strategy meetings and business development planning
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across commercial and operational functions
  • Contribute ideas and strategies within a highly collaborative and entrepreneurial environment

Ideal Profile

✔️ Minimum 3+ years of direct sales and business development experience within freight forwarding, logistics, trucking, customs brokerage, or 3PL environments

✔️ Proven ability to win new business and manage commercial client relationships

✔️ Experience within transportation, shipping, freight forwarding, or logistics environments is strongly preferred

✔️ Existing book of business is considered a strong asset, but not mandatory

✔️ Strong understanding of:

  • Ocean freight (FCL/LCL)
  • Air freight
  • Cross-border transportation
  • Trucking and freight operations
  • Customs clearance processes
  • Incoterms 2020

✔️ Strong commercial acumen with the ability to negotiate pricing, understand margins, and develop competitive logistics solutions

✔️ Experience working with CRM systems (Logitude experience considered an asset)

✔️ Strong communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills

✔️ Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with leadership and operations teams

Work Environment

  • Some travel within Canada and the U.S. may be required depending on client needs and trade show participation
  • Fast-paced and highly entrepreneurial logistics environment with direct access to ownership and leadership
  • Standard schedule: Monday to Friday | Core hours approximately 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM Pacific Time
