Overview

The Spinoza Foundation advances sustainable economic development and education in northern Uganda through partnerships, community engagement, and Canadian support networks. The Business Development Director leads the strategic expansion of The Spinoza Foundation chapters across Canada, strengthens partnerships, and creates long-term pathways for organizational growth and sustainability.

This hybrid role works directly with teams in Canada and Uganda to build networks, drive organizational expansion, and ensure new chapters contribute meaningfully to the Foundation’s impact.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Expansion & Chapter Development

  • Design and implement a national expansion strategy for establishing new community and university-based Spinoza Foundation Chapters.
  • Develop chapter toolkits, governance models, orientation materials, and onboarding systems.
  • Support local volunteer leadership teams through training, mentorship, and ongoing organizational guidance.

Partnership Building

  • Build relationships with universities, community groups, faith-based organizations, NGOs, businesses, and philanthropic networks across Canada.
  • Represent the Foundation in meetings, presentations, and partnership negotiations.

Organizational Growth & Revenue Development

  • Identify new opportunities for sustainable growth, including partnerships, sponsorships, and impact-driven collaborations.
  • Work with the Development Officer to coordinate fundraising initiatives for new chapters.

National Coordination & Support

  • Maintain communication structures that support chapter leaders, volunteers, and student groups.
  • Establish national standards for program delivery, ensuring mission alignment and program quality.

Cross-Country and International Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Community Programs Director to ensure chapters have access to accurate program information and impact stories.
  • Coordinate with Ugandan program teams to align outreach and chapter initiatives with real community needs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in business development, community development, or organizational expansion.
  • Strong networking, facilitation, and partnership-building skills.
  • Ability to lead multi-site teams and support volunteers.
  • Strong communication, planning, and relationship-management abilities.

Preferred Assets

  • Experience working with nonprofits or international development organizations.
  • Familiarity with student engagement and volunteer leadership models.
  • Grant-writing or sponsorship negotiation experience.
