Job Title: Bottle Sorter
Location: Elmsdale Recycling
Position Summary:
The Bottle Sorter is responsible for receiving, sorting, counting, and preparing recyclable beverage containers for processing. This role supports efficient depot operations while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and customer service standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sort beverage containers (glass, plastic, aluminum) by type and brand
- Count and verify returned containers accurately for customer refunds
- Operate sorting tables, bagging stations, and basic equipment
- Bag, label, and stack sorted containers for shipment or pickup
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Assist customers in a polite and professional manner
- Follow all health and safety procedures and wear required PPE
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs repeatedly
- Standing for extended periods
- Repetitive bending, lifting, and sorting motions
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, sometimes noisy environment
Skills & Qualifications:
- Attention to detail and accuracy in counting
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic math skills
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Reliable and punctual
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to odors, sticky surfaces, and broken glass
- Indoor/outdoor work depending on facility setup
- Use of personal protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots)
Safety Responsibilities:
- Follow safe work procedures for handling bottles and cans
- Use proper lifting techniques
- Wear required PPE at all times
- Immediately clean spills and report hazards
- Handle sharps/broken glass using approved tools and methods
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $16.75 per hour
